A Story of Love, Dedication and an Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

In April 60 Minutes ran a segment (click on link below to view) that followed a couple through the 10 year progress of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.  It is the story of Carol and Mike, her progression through the disease and his dedication, challenges faced and love.

This 13 minute segment shows what it means to shoulder the burden of being a caregiver.  Though Carol had the disease, Mike’s life changed just as dramatically with impacts on his mental, physical and financial well-being.

Caregivers are this condition’s unsung heroes.  Unless directly connected we often don’t even know who they are.  There are over 300 households right here in Sun City Lincoln Hills who need caregiver support, and so many more that we don’t know about.

We encourage you to stay connected with friends and neighbors.  If they are becoming more insular or it appears hard for them to get out or around refer them to the Lincoln Hills Foundation.  We have programs such as caregiver respite, meal delivery and support groups that can help lighten the load.

100% of donations received go back into programs that support the Lincoln Community.
